Overview
Unexpected is a text-driven visual novel for players who like mystery wrapped around romance. The tone stays personal and reflective, more conversation than spectacle.
Story
A single voicemail upends the protagonist's week: an anonymous caller says she's pregnant, and he has no idea who left the message. With help from his coworker Kate, he starts working backward through his recent romantic history, trying to track down which of the women from his past might be the one calling. The search turns into an amateur investigation, complicated by missing phone numbers and old flames who suddenly go quiet.
Gameplay
Play unfolds through branching dialogue and narrative choices as the protagonist and Kate piece together clues from past encounters. Decisions shape which women are recalled in detail and how those memories are interpreted, steering the direction of the investigation. Text is paired with 3D rendered visuals to illustrate key scenes and characters as the story moves forward.

Changelog
v1.3
- We had linked to it in the description of the game page a few days back, but up until now the web version was the much shorter and untested version released for the game jam, so if you've only played that, this has around double the content, much more images, and other quality of life improvements like colored text to more easily decipher characters, game settings to name saves and change the font size, and more.
v1.1
- initial zone release
