Overview

Tainted Philter is a visual novel for players who enjoy slow-building corruption stories with a fantasy edge. The tone stays grounded in one man's personal struggle even as the story turns strange and morally murky.

Story

A young man with no family and no money moves to an unfamiliar city for a free place to live. On his first day at a new school, he's pulled into an offer from an otherworldly woman who reveals that magic is real and asks him to help with her research into corruption. She gives him potions with magical effects and reshapes his timid personality to suit the task, but he soon discovers side effects she never mentioned, and chooses to keep them hidden from her.

Gameplay

Play follows the protagonist as he carries out the woman's requests using the potions she provides, exploring a sandbox city and school setting to find opportunities to advance her research in his own way. Choices shape how he uses his hidden abilities and how far his personality changes, with new potions and encounters added as the story continues.
