Overview

H-ERO - The Maverick Manor is a narrative RPG for players who want a Halloween-flavored horror adventure with a dark, playful edge. It suits those drawn to monster-girl fantasy and turn-based combat over long-form sandbox play.

Story

Two undead agents, a half-zombified scientist and a towering revenant amazon, are sent to investigate a surge of magic at a remote mansion on Halloween. Once inside, they're separated and corrupted under the control of an arrogant succubus, and each must fight her way through the manor to break free, find her partner, and turn the tables on their demonic captor.

Gameplay

Players move between exploration, puzzle-solving, and turn-based combat as they guide the two agents through the manor's rooms and defenses. Fights track status effects and context-specific options that shift depending on how corrupted or cornered a character becomes, while puzzles gate progress between areas. Encounters with the manor's monstrous inhabitants tie directly into the corruption theme, adding risk to both combat and exploration.

Features

  • Two playable agents with distinct fights and paths through the manor
  • Turn-based combat with status tracking and situational action menus
  • Puzzle sequences woven into the horror-mansion exploration
  • Dark fantasy setting built around corruption and monster-girl encounters

Changelog

v1.1

  • MAJOR COMBAT SYSTEM OVERHAUL!
  • The combat UI has been totally overhauled, allowing for more information to be displayed per-turn about the protagonist and opponent's respective actions. New bars exist for tracking status effects, for displaying fight-specific context and flavour, and hotkey'd menu buttons that dynamically disabled and enable based on fight situation and status effects are mapped to 1-8 on keyboards (top or numpad).
  • Status Effects have been completely reworked into the new 'Deadline' system. When a status effect is applied, many of them now have set durations; the Deadline. Many status effects will get worse the longer they last, and if they hit their Deadline, a substantial penalty is inflicted as the effect is purged (or possibly gets worse!).
  • It's not all doom and gloom, however! If the protagonist is afflicted with a debuff/status effect, the Defend action transforms into Defend & Triage; with all the existing benefits of Defend, it now also purges most negative status effects, and decreases the progress of some more powerful ones.
  • And don't go worrying about your precious turn economy against the enemy; they're part of this system too. The more effects are stacked on an enemy, the more their status stress rises. If it bypasses an enemy's tolerance - determined by their intelligence and personality - then they will be driven to skip their turn to defend and purge too.
  • Mass-applying Status Effects will often prevent them from hitting their Deadlines and thus their max potential, but can force the enemy to lose turns dealing with them. Vice versa, as the player, it's up to you to decide just how far you can push your status effect(s) before the situation becomes untenable!
  • Along with your chance to hit an enemy, you are told your chance to inflict a Status Effect on that enemy (which varies by the power of the effect and that enemy's resistances).
  • Major Kink Tagging Overhaul
  • Scenes are now properly databased and a masterlist of kinks and other tags exists. This means that the Kink Filtering page under Settings has been drastically overhauled.
  • The original concept of 'Allow, Warn, Forbid' remains, but now it applies to a substantially higher number of tags.
  • If a tag appears in that menu, it means it appears in the game - the number next to it will indicate how many total scenes contain this tag.
  • The new menu is significantly more compact. Hovering over a tag by name will explain what it means.
  • H
  • ERO's Codex (1.0) is now available! Featuring an all-new Codex system with a history function and 'See Also' entries!
  • It is considerably larger than MERCANOID's introductory Codex for The Glowing World, weighing in at roughly 130k words. Enjoy learning about H
  • ERO and all its oddities!
  • New lewds!
  • Cameo characters of Supporters can be found throughout the game in lewd little scenarios!
  • A massive bonus scene (over 10k words) can be found in the Library!
  • An optional extension to Amy's bad end is now available!
  • The game now has a proper Credits popup screen, available in the top left. This lists authors of contributing software/macros, creators of art assets, and my Supporters!
