Overview
The Proteus Effect is a 3D roleplaying adventure for players who enjoy fantasy settings with a body-swap twist and a lighthearted tone. It leans into romance and adult content without taking itself too seriously.
Story
A man who takes a job as a playtester at a virtual-reality game company gets more than he bargained for when he's trapped inside the game and finds himself living in the body of a young woman. Alongside companions he meets along the way, he sets out to uncover why the game is malfunctioning and find a way back to his own body, all while traveling through a series of fantasy-themed worlds.
Gameplay
Players guide the protagonist through story-driven chapters, talking to characters, following quest events, and making choices that shape conversations and outcomes. Progress is split between exploring hub areas to check in with the cast and moving through scripted story sequences tied to the fantasy setting. Some interactions branch into different paths depending on the choices made.
Features
- Fully rendered 3D character models and environments
- A transformation premise that ties directly into the game's romance and adult scenes
- Branching conversation choices that affect how certain story events play out
Installation
1. Extract and run.
Changelog
v10.4
- Includes 2 events: the Commercial District reopening ceremony (and tour) and the date with Ana. Even so, the story events themselves will probably take over 1.5 hours to get through, and if you go around and talk to everyone, it'll probably take between 2-2.5 hours. In addition, there are two basic outcomes and several different conversation paths in the date, so if you want to explore all those, you'll have to replay it a few times. You could spend considerably longer than 2.5 hours playing, depending on how much of a completionist you are.
