Overview

Neon Bay is a text-based life and dating simulator for players who want an open-ended cyberpunk sandbox with a relaxed, character-driven tone. It suits anyone who prefers reading and choices over action.

Story

You've just moved to Neon Bay, a near-future city with no dystopian edge to it, and the slate is clean. What you build from there, whether that means settling down or chasing casual encounters, is left entirely up to you.

Gameplay

Play centers on managing a new life in the city: holding down a career, keeping track of personal needs, and choosing outfits as you go about your days. NPCs run on their own schedules and have distinct personalities, preferences, and styles, so getting to know them changes how encounters unfold. A handful of storylines give early direction, but most of the game is driven by who you decide to approach and how.

Features

  • Deep NPC generation with individual schedules, tastes, and personalities
  • Career and needs systems that shape daily routine
  • Character creation with support for varied protagonist types
  • Interactive scenes tied to the people you choose to pursue

Installation

1. Extract and run.

Changelog

v0.1.0

  • Initial game Release.

Fixed:

  • Fixed missing boob selection dropdown menus during character creation
  • Fixed negative skill XP on level up (and other related issues with skills/XP)
  • Fixed Payday event not working correctly (and made it so that if the event gets skipped somehow you still get paid)
  • Fixed getting phone numbers even when rejected
  • Fixed a couple of back-end errors
  • Fixed being able to spam through storylines and breaking them as a result
  • Fixed game state not being properly reset upon exiting to main menu (pretty sure I got everything, let me know if there's still any lingering issues)
  • Fixed job shifts being able to be scheduled when the location was closed making it impossible to start the shift
  • Fixed incorrect starting outfits and made them identity-specific
  • Fixed various things that could cause job shifts to duplicate on the Calendar
  • Fixed an oversight where not-implemented date types were still available to schedule
  • Fixed high Needs events not firing or firing incorrectly

Added:

  • Enabled game scaling. Please note that this is a temporary, imperfect implementation and may result in some UI weirdness. The default resolution for the game is 1280x720, so higher resolutions may be weird and smaller resolutions will likely be unplayable.
  • Random event queue system so that if multiple high needs events become possible, they all fire in sequence.
  • Small animation for the Needs bars when they change values because I think it's neat.
  • Balance/Changes

Tweaked Needs rates:

  • Hunger: 15/hr -> 10/hr
  • Thirst: 20/hr -> 13/hr
  • Hygiene: 4/hr -> 5/hr
  • Comfort: 12/hr -> 5/hr
  • Social: 8/hr -> 3/hr
  • Bladder: 20/hr -> 13/hr
  • Fatigue: 6/hr -> 4/hr
