Overview
Hazelnut Latte is a 2D visual novel for players who like character-focused dating sims with a flirty, easygoing tone. It plays light and personal, built around one relationship rather than a large cast.
Story
The story opens in a café, where the player meets a young barista named Hazel. A simple order of coffee becomes the start of a conversation, and the choices made from there, down to what drink is picked, shape how the two get to know each other.
Gameplay
Play centers on dialogue choices that steer the growing relationship with Hazel, framed through the small ritual of ordering coffee. Between conversations, the game opens into a sandbox structure, letting the player revisit the café and other locations to keep pushing the relationship forward at their own pace. Choices lean into flirtation, teasing, and the occasional detour into riskier territory like cheating or voyeuristic scenes, depending on the path taken.
Features
- Hand-drawn 2D art with animated scenes
- A single, closely written relationship rather than a wide cast of routes
- Sandbox-style free roam between story beats
- Themes involving a trans love interest, with adult content woven into the relationship path
Installation
1. Extract and run.
Changelog
v0.15.0.2
- Linux port + MacOS port (assuming it works this time)
- Fixed issue with the wrong face colour being applied in the Max kissing scene, depending on what face type you selected in Character Creator
- Slight fix in how we retrieve player appearance for animated scenes. Won't noticeably improve performance, but will make it easier to work with in the back-end
- Fixed player name being displayed in the dialogue box instead of the nameplate during the Max scene.
v0.15.0.1
- Name error for Max scene (said POV instead of the player's name)
- Redid the rendering system so the fade out does not black out the options menu button. There might be some graphical quirks left, but I ironed out as many as I could
- The game should now enforce a strict 16:9 resolution, which should stop graphical shenanigans in the case that you are using ultra-wide monitors or a square one.
- Fixed an issue with the loading screen so you couldn't tell that it was actually loading. Now you should see some text that animates, giving you an idea of whether something is happening or if the game froze.
- Reduced loading times from Main Menu to Main Game by a homeopathic amount
